About this speaker
Karen’s commitment to clean water started with a humanitarian visit to Peru in 2007. After witnessing young children living without water and seeing the impact on their lives and health, she knew one day she would do something to help people in Peru and other water-deprived areas around the globe. The next year, she married Kelly Rock. Together, they developed Micronic Technologies determined to make a lasting impact on the world by creating a technology that could clean water from any source.
She is the CEO and Co-Founder of Micronic Technologies (Micronic), a technology firm in Southwestern Virginia. The company has patented and piloted a clean water system that purifies industrial wastewater from any source. She has led the development, piloting, fundraising, grant execution process, and board management of this highly disruptive technology startup and commercializing a patented wastewater concentration technology, the Tornadic One-Pass™ (TOP™). The company has over $8M in development funding, 17 patents issued, a testing pilot in Bristol, VA, its first engineered unit installed at EPA for testing and evaluation, and key strategic channel partnerships in place.
Before Micronic, Karen’s 35 years working in government and industry provided her with an extensive operational contracting background, with 24 years conducting or managing studies and assessments in policy, management, and the technology aspects of acquisition. Working with over 20 federal agencies, Karen's clients have included the Departments of Defense, State, and Homeland Security. Karen has held executive-level, private-sector, and government posts.
